The CVDentus tips are a direct result of the development in CVD diamond by the DIMARE Group of the National Institute of Space Research (INPE) in Brazil.
The DIMARE Group - Diamonds and Related Materials - began the studies in CVD diamond, in the Associated Laboratory of Sensors and Materials at National Institute for Space Research, in 1990. The main objective was the development of diamonds for space applications, as materials for solid lubricants, optical windows and heat spreaders. The group understand the high imporance for the transfer of this technology to the society in a spin-off process.
In 1994, during basic experiments for evaluation of CVD diamond columnar growth, with experiments done on pins of small diameter, it was observed the possibility of use as dental burr. The first tests were accomplished and, the dental burrs in CVD diamond won the prize of better work in SBPqO 1994 (Brazilian Society of Dental Research).
In 1997 the company Clorovale Diamantes Ind. Com. Ltd. was created, through fomentation of the Program of Technological Innovation in Small Companies (PIPE) of the São Paulo State Research Agency (FAPESP).
In 1998 the patent of the dental burr developed at INPE won the prize "Governor of São Paulo State", as better invention of the year. On this same year the studies to obtain ultrasonic dental tips were initiate.
In 2001 Clorovale Diamantes participated in III Venture Fórum Brasil, promoted by Financier of Studies and Projects (FINEP). The Company was one of the 17 chosen among more than 400 enrolled, due to the great innovation of the CVD diamond dental burrs. On this same year the first ultrasonic CVD diamond tips were obtained. With these tips it was already possible to perforate glass, ceramic, enamel, dentine, and other hard materials, with excellent durability.
In November of 2002 and in January of 2003 the ultrasonic CVD tips were introduced in the market, in events in Shearaton Hotel, in Rio de Janeiro and in Rebouças Convention Center in São Paulo.
In 2003 the technology of the CVDentus tips won the FINEP Technological Innovation Prize, as better product of the Southeast Area. It still won the national honor that it was given directly by the President of Republic of Brazil. CVDentus tips won other important prizes, always for the high innovation of the product, such as the Master of Science and Technology Prize (2002 and 2003) and the Top Smile Prize (2003).
With the growth of the acceptance of the product and of the company, the ultrasonic CVD diamond tips obtained the registered mark CVDentus and the company Clorovale Diamantes changed his name to CVDVale.
In 2007 the company consolidated the term "Ultrasonic Dentistry", which best characterizes the whole new work field opened up by the CVDentus tips.
